Yellow Series
"ZZ / Zz"
The Yellow gene, also called Lutino or Xanthochromism, is represented by an uppercase Z. It is one of two genes that determine the base color of a Canis Nudari, with the other gene being the recessive z for Dune. A dog may be heterozygous (have one copy of the gene, Zz) or homozygous (have two copies of the gene, ZZ) and both will express Yellow.
Unlike traditional breeds, the Yellow in Nudari is unrelated to the Intensity and Chinchilla loci. The gene originated in Budgies / Parakeets and was spliced into the genome during breed development and subsequently edited. Because of the connection between the gene and its source, like Lutino parakeets, Yellow Nudari are classified as a form of albinism. A true pink or red eyed, white dog can never occur without extreme cases of dilution, called Lethal Whites. Yellow Nudari are not sensitive to the sun / light or prone to skin conditions like typical white albino dogs.
In purebred Nudari, the Yellow gene turns off, or in the case of the rare Sunset Yellow, dulls red pigment preventing the development of rich browns often associated with the Dune series. Liver-based Nudari can occur during outcrossing, but all yellow dogs will express either Black pigment or the puppy will be born an "outcross color" due to the inability to create sufficient red pigment with the gene active.
As of 7/5/2022, there are six accepted base shades of Yellow within the breed, one black based shade called Yellow Dusk and one hybrid shade known as Hazel Yellow.
